MA with a major in Biblical Studies

The Master of Arts with a major in Biblical Studies acquaints students with the language, literature, history, culture and theology of the Bible. This degree provides students familiarity both with biblical content and with the techniques of interpreting the biblical record and works. Students may choose between two emphases, New Testament and Old Testament, within this degree.

The MA with a major in Biblical Studies is excellent preparation for goals such as:
  • Doctoral study leading to advanced research and teaching

  • Enrichment of preaching, teaching and other forms ministry

  • Campus ministry in which specific knowledge of the Bible would be beneficial

Structure

In addition to the MA core, the MA (Biblical Studies) involves 13 hours of courses specific to Biblical Studies plus 19 hours of courses specific to the chosen track:

  • Biblical Studies Courses (13 hrs): Beginning Greek, Beginning Hebrew, Academic Resources and Research

  • New Testament Emphasis (19 hrs): New Testament Theology, New Testament exegesis, Modern Methods of New Testament Study, New Testament Proposal and Thesis, New Testament exegesis elective and one other New Testament elective

  • Old Testament Emphasis (19 hrs): Old Testament Theology and Religion, Old Testament exegesis, Additional Semitic language, Old Testament Proposal and Thesis, and Old Testament electives
